There were six call outs to cover on the Gold FM Fire Call Out with Waihi Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens this week.
On Monday 12 July at 12.15 pm Waihi Fire & Rescue were called to help with the landing of a helicopter at Morgan Park for a medical situation.
Then at 7 pm last Monday they attended a car that had been lit on fire near the Whiritoa turnoff. They sent their tanker to assist but by the time they arrived it was under control so they headed back to base.
On Tuesday 13 July at 7 pm they had an interesting job. They were called out to Quarry Rd in response to a call on the 111 emergency line. At the time they were about to head out of the station to that exact address, as the fire had been lit on purpose at Alton Drilling’s Yard for an exercise Waihi Fire and Rescue were about to take part in. Moe said after dark any fire attracts interest so they weren’t too surprised to have their own fire reported in. The exercise went to plan and there were no issues.
Last Wednesday July 14 at 6.30 pm they assisted with another medical situation.
The next job was at 11.30 am on Friday July 16 when they headed to Pukekauri Rd after a report of power lines down. They aren’t sure why they had come down, perhaps it was the wet weather recently and the winds, but Moe said they made sure the area was safe and waited for the power company to get there. Brian reminded listeners that they should treat all lines as live at all times.
Then on Sunday 18 July the siren went off at 3.30 pm when a car rolled on Waitawheta Rd. The driver was OK but the vehicle wasn’t Moe said.
