The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday morning started with Brian Gentil asking Rudy Sas about his son Mason, who is playing for Hamilton Wanderers, and how he’s getting on. Mason usually plays for the reserves but has been training with the first team squad for the last week or so which is great experience for him Rudy said.
Rudy briefly reminded parents and caregivers about start times for a return to training and coaching sessions and games coming up once school gets back in for the term.
Brian checked out the Waihi Senior games next with Rudy. The Waihi Reserves played Matamata away and came home victors beating them 4 - 0. In the first round Waihi won 7 - 2 so they continued on their winning ways. Rudy says they are about 6th on the table at the moment and are getting some really good goals. He said it was great to see several young players getting onto the scoreboard in both teams over the weekend.
The Senior A side was also away last weekend, when they came up against Northern United Debacles, who they beat 4 - 1 in the first round. This time they made it two out of two, winning 7 - 1 at the new Korikori Park in Hamilton.
That leaves Waihi at the top of the table as the top team Northern United Humblebees game against Te Awamutu abandoned early into the first half with the score at 1 all. The referee said the conditions were so bad the game would need to be played at a later date.
The damage to Morgan Park by a vehicle last Tuesday night came up with a thanks to Hauraki District council for their quick repair job, which unfortunately Rudy says is the best they’ll be able to do until the warmer weather. Again the request went out from Brian and Rudy for anyone with information about the vandalism to get in touch with the police.
The English Premier League starts again in mid August and Rudy is keen to watch his favourite side Manchester United play a couple of ‘friendlies’. They had a win 2 - 1 over Derby County early this morning and another game coming up on Sunday against Queens Park Rangers.
And Rudy and Brian commented on the New Zealand Oly Whites playing at the Olympics and whether Winston Reid was playing or not. It’s been confirmed Chris Wood will take the field, and after a couple of friendly games against Australia, with a win and a loss, they’re are keen to get some game time in their pool.
