The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors started with a reminder about junior coaching on Sunday mornings. Rudy explained the coaching programme and Brian checked it was still OK for boys and girls between 4 and 14 to join them. Rudy says they can still turn up and have a go, and if they enjoy it after a couple of weeks they can join.

Brian asked Rudy about the Waihi College Year 7’s and 8’s game against Bethlehem. Rudy was pleased to report a good win to Waihi 6 - 1. And Waihi College had to head off just after 6.30 am on Saturday morning to get to Hamilton in time for a warm up prior to their kick off at 8.30 am against Hamilton Boys High School. It was worth the early start with a convincing 5 - 2 victory.

Brian and Rudy checked out Waihi Senior Reserves game at home against Huntly Thistle, which they lost 3 - 1 unfortunately, leaving them mid table.

The Waihi Senior A side traveled away for their game against Morrinsville, and Rudy said they had a great win 5 - 0 to keep them just 2 points adrift of the league leaders Northern United Humblebees. Rudy said Richard James had worked out that with the number of games left to be played with the points they have that they have secured second place this season.

Brian and Rudy talked about their game this coming Saturday. They would love a lot of local support as they come up against the top placed Northern United Humblebees. If they can beat them at Waihi College on Saturday they can move one point ahead of them, although Northern United does have a game in hand so it depends on how other teams fare as to whether Waihi can take that top spot. If you can make it along kick off is at 2.45 pm. Good luck to the green and golds!

Rudy and Brian talked about the OllyWhites being beaten in the quarter finals by Tokyo Olympic hosts Japan. After 90 minutes they were tied nil all. After a further 30 minutes extra time there was no change to the score so they went to a penalty shoot out. New Zealand missed a couple while Japan players were clinical in hitting the back of the net, winning 4 - 2 and progressing to the semifinals.
