The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday began with an update on local football, well any football in New Zealand. Rudy Sas told Brian Gentil that until we get down to Alert Level 2 there won’t be any games played, and with Auckland still in Alert Level 4 for a while it may be the end of the season for their season!
There’s a gap in play with the English Premier League and other competitions with an International Window at the moment.
Rudy and Brian talked about Christiano Ronaldo and his new record of most goals scored by a professional male player, set yesterday when he played for Portugal and scored two fantastic headers, after missing from the penalty spot, in their win over Ireland.
Brian added that after taking his shirt off in celebration, which is a no no, he got yet another yellow card. Rudy explained that with an accumulation of about five yellow cards the player misses the next game, which is the situation with Ronaldo.
Rudy ran through some of the other games coming up.
Brian talked about the new coach for the Football Ferns, replacing Tom Sermanni, who stepped down after the Tokyo Olympics. Former age-group coach Jitka Klimkova from the Czech Republic will take the Football Ferns through to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She has a bit of history with New Zealand women’s football and should be a good fit Brian said.
Brian and Rudy also told us about a player who played two games in two countries in one day, one game was for his country, Wales, the other for his club, Bayer Munich. And his teams won their games!
