The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday September 3 started with Brian asking Scott Day from Thames Valley RFU about the fitness difference between training and game time, after the break that’s happening. Scott said there’s a big difference and it’s something coaches will have to watch.
Brian asked when we might see some local rugby, with Scott hinting Saturday September 18 might, that’s might be a date to remember. That’s when the Thames Valley Swampfoxes could be back out on the field, but it will depend on the Alert Level we are at at that time.
Brian mentioned Marty Banks returning to Dunedin and playing for the Highlanders, with Scott saying he’s going to add that something special to the side, especially as a fan favourite.
Brian and Scott talked about the move north for Josh Ioane, who’s going to fill the gap left at the Chiefs when Damien McKenzie heads to Japan next season. and then Brian asked Scott about his thoughts on the Super Rugby Pacific competition in 2022. Scott’s really looking forward to some great games, and the Australian sides might find it tough.
Scott and Brian talked about the All Blacks game on Sunday against Australia, with Scott saying with it being played in Perth in Australia, it might make a difference for the Aussies. And he said he’d like top see James O’Connor and Quade Cooper come back to fill an injury slot or two, which wold make for some exciting rugby.
And there’s plenty more top rugby on the way with Brian and Scott mentioning the Championship games on the way against Argentina and South Africa, before the All Blacks continue on tour to play the USA, Italy, Wales and more.
