On the Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday morning Brian asked Scott Day, the Rugby Development Officer with Thames Valley RFU, if he’d been to a training with the Emerging Thames Valley squad since we came down to Covid-19 Alert Level 2. Unfortunately they found out on Thursday night there have been a few changes and they’ll hear more about the representative sides in the next week or so about what will, and won’t, happen this season.
Brian asked Scott about New Zealand Rugby (NZR) trialing a range of law variations in school and club rugby for juniors that kick in on January 1. Scott ran through some of the things they are looking at which include reducing tackle height, enhancing breakdown and scrums, and ensuring players remain grounded while contesting high balls, in a bid to reduce aerial collisions.
Scott brought us up to date with the NPC competition which is about to get up and running, with a few tweaks. And the Thames Valley Swampfoxes are looking at their first game being against Wairarapa Bush possibly - TBC, next weekend. The draw is still to be finalised so we’ll have more on this on Monday morning’s report with Scott.
And the Rugby Championship Competition came under the spotlight as well, with both Scott and Brian looking forward to the All Blacks taking on Argentina on Sunday night NZT. South Africa will be too strong for Australia Scott thinks, but never count them out, especially on home turf.
