The Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday started with Brian Gentil asking Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC about an emotional day at Waihi College on Saturday with the end of an era … Rudy has signed off as coach after his son Connor played his last game for the school. The association has been for almost ten years and has seen Rudy and Karen’s other son Mason go through the ranks as well. Good on you Sas family! Take a well earned break. Brian reckons with the Sas family’s love of footy we’ll see them around for a long time to come.

Rudy gave us a run down of Waihi College’s last game of the season, which they won 2 - 1 against Hamilton Boys High School Red. That was the last game as coach for Rudy so it was good to go out on a high. Rudy and Karen’s son Connor is off to university next year and both he and older brother Mason went through the ranks at Waihi College.

Rudy and Brian then checked out the results of the Plate Cup Knock Out Competition games the Waihi senior sides played. The Waihi Reserves unfortunately lost 3 - 2 against Waikato Unicol Development in what Rudy said was a close game. And the Waihi Senior side also lost, 3 - 1 in their home game against Cambridge.

There’s a meeting later this week about the two day tournament Waihi hosts over Labour Weekend with a few things now in the air with Hamilton going back to alert level 3, which may affect which teams can take part.

The English Premier League results were interesting with a lot of draws this weekend. Rudy and Brian checked out some of the results, including the 1 all draw between Liverpool and Manchester city, a 1 all draw between Manchester United and Everton, and nil all draws for Burnley and Norwich City as well as Brighton and Arsenal. Brentford had a good away win 2 - 1 over West Ham and Tottenham Hotspurs had a win at home against Aston Villa 2 - 1.

Rudy mentioned there is now a break for some international games with the EPL back the following weekend.

Brian wrapped the report up with a thanks on behalf of Waihi College for all the time and effort put in by Rudy over the years, and behind the scenes his wife Karen as well, and Rudy thanked some of those who have been a part of the scene over the time he’s been involved.
