On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Monday Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas from Waihi Association Football Club about their prize-giving on Saturday. Rudy said they had a kick-around then a BBQ with families along before the prize-giving at 6 pm at Morgan Park. Rudy ran through the Reserves and Senior Side prize winners with awards including Golden Boot, Players’ Player and Presidents Trophy to Most Consistent, Most Improved, the Fair Play Award and ‘the Toilet Seat’, which went to a player for an own goal this year. No, no names here on Gold FM, and congratulations to the club on a great season.
Brian and Rudy checked out the English Premier League action over the weekend with some interesting scores. After 8 rounds second placed Liverpool won 5 - 0 against Watford while Manchester United just couldn’t ‘get it together’ Rudy said, going down 4 - 2 against Leicester City. Brentford lost 1 nil to Chelsea, who are top of the table, and Tottenham Hotspur had a good win over Newcastle 3 - 2. Everton lost to West Ham 1 - 0 and Manchester City is in third spot after their 2 - 0 win against Burnley.
Brian and Rudy checked out the Waihi AFC’s Annual Two Day Labour Weekend Tournament and that it’s on, and they’ll know how many teams will be there after the government’s announcement about COVID restrictions and whether Auckland will move down from Alert Level 3.
And Rudy said it will also make a difference to his son Mason Sas who is in the Hamilton Wanderers Under 19 squad that is supposed to be playing a major tournament with 68 teams in Napier this weekend. No doubt we’ll have an update on these two events on Friday morning’s Football Report.
