Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors

On the Gold FM Football Report with Carters Contractors on Friday morning Brian Gentil asked Rudy Sas from Waihi AFC if their senior side, who won the second division, were going up or not to the first division for next season. Rudy said there had been some talk but no decision had been made yet. Some want to go up a division while others think they should stay where they are for another year and then think about it. We’ll wait to find out the outcome.

The World Cup Qualifiers are back in action with games being played as the Football Report was on. Rudy ran through some of the games and highlighted again how difficult it must be for some of the players who might play three games in one week, two for their club and in between representing their country, so there’re some hard yards done in the background to keep that sort of fitness up.

Brian and Rudy checked out the games coming up next week with the English Premier League, which takes a break this weekend for the internationals window to take place.

Rudy also had some interesting news about previous Liverpool player, and one of the best midfielders of his generation, Steven Gerard, who has just been appointed manager, or coach as we say in NZ, of Aston Villa.

And Rudy mentioned the Wellington Phoenix and the local connection for this coming season with George Ott from Waihi joining their ranks. Brian’s looking forward to seeing how they go with their season getting underway later this month.
