The Gold FM Rugby Report with Harcourts Gold Star on Friday was all about finals, semifinals and an international.
Brian Gentil spoke with Thames Valley RFU Rugby Development Officer Scott Day about the Heartland Competition finals weekend first. The Bill Osborne Trophy is on the line this weekend in Gisborne, when Poverty Bay take on Mid-Canterbury on Sunday at 2.05 pm. Scott’s picking a home win for this one.
In the Lochore Cup final at 1.05 pm on Sunday Brian is backing the boys from the North Island, and Scott has gone the same way with Whanganui too strong for their North Otago opponents.
And there was no argument when it came to supporting the Thames Valley Swampfoxes in their Meads Cup final against South Canterbury in Timaru on Sunday with kick off at 3.35 pm.
Scott and Brian checked out the NPC semi-final games this weekend, starting with Friday night’s game between Manawatu and Otago. Scott is backing Manawatu saying he thinks they will have the upper hand.
On Saturday Taranaki has the home ground advantage in their game against Southland, Hawkes Bay should be too strong for Tasman and Brian has gone for Waikato to beat Canterbury in the other semi-final, while Scott thinks the southerners will win!
The All Blacks game against Ireland this weekend came under the spotlight with Scott saying the AB’s have put forward a very strong side with a good looking bench to add to the mix, and they should be too good for the Irish.
