Representatives from Merdeka Copper Gold in Indonesia spent two days in Waihi this week. Merdeka has five mines on five different islands across Indonesia, each with a separate language or tribal dialect. They produce over 350,000 oz of gold each year.

The group was accompanied by Indonesian government representatives. They visited Waihi as they wanted to learn from OceanaGold ’s experiences of working in close proximity to the local community.

As part of their visit, they met with Brian Gentil for a chat about his experience of the pros, cons and in-betweens perceived locally. Brian said, " It was very interesting to talk about the differences between mining here in Waihi and Indonesia. They were genuinely friendly people."
