NZ Transport Agency Waikato System Manager Karen Boyt says the Coromandel Peninsula, particularly the eastern side had over 200mm of rain fall last night and the worst hit communities of Whitianga, Hikuai and Kuaotuna are currently isolated.

“Our clean up crews will be on site and clearing the road as soon as they can, however with more bad weather on the way, we are uncertain at this point in time when SH25 will be completely re-open safely to motorists.”

“We ask all motorists to please avoid the area or delay your journey if possible and please remember to slow down, keep your lights on and allow extra time,” says Ms Boyt.
