Rahui Placed on Castle Rock - Motutere

Posted 4 September 2018 by Gold FM in Environmental and History, Arts & Culture

A rahui (temporary prohibition) has been placed over Motutere, also know as Castle Rock, by Ngati Huarere.

The closure of the area has been instigated following the deaths of two people in recent months.

The public is asked to respect the rahui and not to access the site.

"As legal owners, we want to take time to discuss how we manage our maunga going forward," says Wanda Brljevich, Ngati Huarere spokesperson.

"This mountain is private property and notice is given that any unauthorised access will be taken as trespassing. Ngati Huarere does not accept any responsibility for anyone accessing the site, " says Mrs Brljevich.
